Our world is full of distractions and they can leave us wondering how to get focused and do what we need to do each day. Here are some tips to get you back on track with blazing focus.

1. Drink some water

There’s a chance that you’re dehydrated! Drink a glass of water, and take a few deep breaths. See if your mind feels clearer and you’re able to refocus.

2. Write a list

Do you have so many thoughts swirling around in your head that you go to start something, but are constantly interrupted by “Oh, I forgot that I need to ____!”? It’s time to make a list. Free your mind and write every single thought on your mind onto paper. It doesn’t need to be organized. Once everything is out, look at everything you’ve written and break it down into subcategories. Now that it’s on paper, you can’t forget! If you still have interrupting thoughts after making a list, simply acknowledge the thought, write it down, and resume your task at hand.

3. Take a nap

If you didn’t get a good night’s sleep, you might be feeling the effects. Whether you had trouble falling asleep, woke up in the middle of the night, had nightmares, or stayed up way too late watching your favorite TV show, your mind missed out on some valuable peace and quiet time! Give your brain a break and take a nap. We’ve got a great guide on napping!

4. Get rid of distractions

If nothing else worked, ask yourself “What is preventing me from focusing?” Do you have too many coworkers interrupting you? Allot a time period each day to focused work where nothing–and nobody–can distract you. Can’t put your phone down? Download a program to block addictive apps during the day, uninstall these apps, or better yet, turn off your phone! Look at anything that is getting in the way of you achieving your goals, and combat these distractions.
