For the month of September, we’ve been focusing on workplace burnout, something that’s been spreading through companies like wildfire in recent years. The most effective way to stop burnout is to prevent it from happening in the first place. However, that’s not always possible. Burnout can strike for a number of reasons and sometimes it’s inevitable. So how do you help employees recover from burnout?
That’s where Fabulous comes in. The Fabulous app helps users build healthy routines into their day, which can help prevent burnout. But, if an employee burns out anyway, Fabulous can also help them recover.
Here are ten Fabulous habits we suggest to help employees recover from burnout.
1. Emotional Check-up
Burnout can cause fatigue and brain fog. It can make it hard to determine how you’re feeling. Taking time to check in with yourself once a day can pull you out of that dissociated state. Plus, determining how you really feel in the moment can help you determine what you need to feel better.
2. Build Stronger Relationships
The depression and anxiety that can grow from burnout can lead to isolation, which only makes things worse. That’s why we recommend reaching out to loved ones to connect, even if it’s just to say hi or chat. Remind yourself that you aren’t alone.
3. Disconnect And Unplug
A healthy work-life balance is a vital part of burnout prevention. You can’t enjoy time off from work if you’re never away from it! Designate some time every day to block notifications, disconnect from the company Slack, and enjoy some much-needed leisure time.
4. Get Inspired
Burnout can leave you feeling uninspired. Fabulous has several great inspirational exercises in the Make Me Fabulous menu. For burnout recovery, we recommend Fresh Start! to help rekindle your fire and get you excited about your work again.
5. Write In Your Journal
Getting your feelings out of your head and onto paper makes them less abstract and more “real,” which makes them easier to address. Journaling is also an excellent way to gain self-awareness. The better you know yourself, the better you can take care of yourself.
6. Be Grateful
A daily gratitude practice is one of the easiest ways to boost your mental and physical health. Finding things to be grateful for every day can reduce stress and help you sleep better. And, when it comes to burnout, rest is the best medicine.
7. Fabulous Circle
As we mentioned earlier, reaching out can help ease the symptoms of burnout. With Fabulous Circles, you can find other Fabulous users who have gone through the same thing and can offer support and advice.
8. Go For A Short Walk
Taking a leisurely stroll through nature has a number of benefits. The fresh air and greenery can reduce stress. Gentle movement gets your blood pumping and increases your body awareness. And, most importantly, a short walk outside gets you away from work, giving your mind a chance to rest.
9. Yoga
Not feeling the great outdoors? Roll out your yoga mat and move through a few poses. You’ll reap all the same benefits of a short walk but right from the comfort of your living room. Add some gentle music for an added bonus!
10. Breathe
When you can’t get away from work or don’t have time to rest or do yoga, it can leave you feeling hopeless. But there is still a helpful habit you can practice: Breathing. Just taking a beat to close your eyes and breathe deeply can be a mindfulness practice all on its own. Plus, the oxygen boost will help you feel better, too.
