A New Journey Awaits: The Art of Stoic Living

Reading Time: 3 minutes

What do Frederick the Great, Theodore Roosevelt, and Elon Musk have in common? They use the teachings of Stoicism as a guide for living well.

This ancient philosophy has guided the decisions of many of the greatest minds living today by offering a real playbook with tools that anyone can apply to their life.

We are often so overwhelmed with everyday reality and demands that we don’t have the time or mindset to enjoy the true pleasures of living. In fact, we are increasingly numb to those pleasures, and the calls of our own hopes and dreams become so faint we barely hear them.

As a result, we avoid moments alone, or at least reduce them to a minimum. This allows us to ignore acknowledging our desires, and to ignore the sleepy way we move through our existence. Our connected world also offers us protection against this self-consciousness, like clouds covering the real mountain before us in plain sight.

There’s also the fact that our standard education doesn’t prepare us to face life head-on. We are taught to read and write, but not the most important of activities: how to live.

If you’re stuck in a rut because you repeatedly get in your own way, this journey is your chance to confront yourself and finally break the pattern

For the past few months, our team has worked diligently to craft a new journey, and we’re thrilled to finally announce that it’s ready for the Fabulous community! This 5-week Stoic Art of Living journey will help you create a system of values that teach you how to act on your principles instead of your impulses.

The original purpose of philosophy was to teach the art of living, but that purpose has been largely forgotten because those teaching it – classroom philosophers – revel in inaccessible, abstract, metaphysical realms.

As a result, when we think of philosophy today, we usually picture gloomy types behind closed doors, buried in piles of books, using terms and concepts that are far removed from the true realities of life.

So where do most of us turn to live a better life? Some choose religion; others lose themselves in the dogmas offered by “ready to wear,” one-size-fits-all pop philosophy. Few develop their own way of life and even fewer manage to put it into sustained action.

That’s where practical philosophy comes in. It aims to lift us out of our complacency and teaches us to appreciate the magnificence that surrounds us. It allows us to access a state of constant alertness and awakening, inviting us to absorb life and all that it offers us, fully and intensely.

These branches of philosophy teach us to break down the limitations that hold us back, to persist in the face of any challenge, live in the present, and have a detached view of yourself and the world around you.

They teach us to find opportunity in your adversity, absolute truth in your fear, and freedom in your limitations to truly master the art of stoicism.

They coax us to spread our wings, take flight, and experience life to the furthest extent.

By embarking on the Stoic art of living journey, you’re beginning an age-old philosophical adventure to become the best version of yourself. In a few weeks, you will learn to bring down the mental walls that impede you and spread your wings.
