Meditation for Sleep

Reading Time: < 1 minutes

Been having trouble falling asleep lately? If you have, you’re not alone. With an increase in distractions and a decrease in down time, sleep problems are on the rise. But did you know meditation can help you sleep better?

How it Works

Meditation is meant to help you relax while increasing your sense of awareness. You breathe evenly and deeply and let your focus on the outside world slip away. This combination activates your body’s parasympathetic nervous system, which increases feelings of relaxation. In fact, it’s often called the “rest and digest” nervous system, since it’s most active when you’re resting or have just had a meal.

In fact, meditation can be a little too good about helping people fall asleep. Accidentally dozing off is one of the most common obstacles meditation beginners face!

Getting Started

If you’re ready to improve your sleep with meditation, you needn’t look any further than the Fabulous app. Fabulous’s guided meditation, A Space for Sleep, is a visualization exercise designed to help you fully relax your body and get some much-needed rest.

If guided meditations aren’t your thing, try progressive muscle relaxation. While lying down, get comfortable, and mentally scan your body from head to toe. As you reach new muscle groups, clench those muscles as hard as you can, then let them relax. You’ll be drifting off before you know it.

Sweet dreams!
